Tasting Notes

2009 Howlin' Gale Cabernet                                                STELVIN

The palate is full of vanilla, clove and aniseed backed by some well-integrated oak and blackberry fruit.  Fine tannins with a smooth finish.

This wine would benefit from decanting.  The vineyard lies only a short distance from the winery.  The grapes are de-stemmed and cooled on their way to a small open fermenter where they are gently pumped over for 10 to 12 days before being softly pressed.

Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels.  The wine is matured in oak for 22 months prior to bottling.  This wine is unfiltered.

2009 Howlin' Gale Velocity                                                STELVIN

Fresh cranberries, fruit cake and dark chocolate with a hint of spice. The juiciness of the shiraz is integrated with the cabernet tannin structure finishing with a smooth palate with lots of spices and silky tannin.

The shiraz and cabernet were picked and fermented separately. The cabernet was matured in newer oak while the shiraz stored in older barrels. This is the perfect match for a BBQ between friends!

2009 Howlin' Gale "Force 10" Shiraz                                      STELVIN

Fresh raspberries, vibrant crushed fruit.  Well-integrated oak.  Smooth and full bodied balanced by silky tannin.  Notes of mocha, cedar and spices.

This parcel of shiraz was vinified in an open fermenter and gently pumped over during the 12 days of fermentation.  An 18 month maturation in French and American oak barriques contributes to the wine’s structure and the soft, silky mouthfeel.

A beautiful example of Langhorne Creek Shiraz.
