The Journey
Howlin’ Gale Wines was originally
formed to assist with satisfying our own family’s drinking habits.
Our mother Jen and late father Mick have been tremendous contributors to
the cause.
Ack & Tom whilst being buffered sitting
in the upper bar, drinking copious Lake Breeze reds, at Ack’s house on
the shores of Lake Alexandrina and, after a lifetime of observation,
noticed the winds around the lake were not gentle breezes.
The winds were in fact very strong,
were always blowing and they were more like gale force!
The thought then entered our heads
and hence the creation of the label
The first Vintage was in 1998 with a
Shiraz from Lake Breeze Wines who kindly allowed us to rebadge a 'cleanskin'
they had available.
Since then we have developed into a unique
boutique wine company, distributing our wines throughout Australia.
We make our wines from single vineyard
fruit, all sourced from the Langhorne Creek area and as close as
possible to the shores of Lake Alexandrina.
We believe the closeness to the Lake
frontage ensures a higher quality of fruit. It appears the closer
the fruit is to the Lake the earlier the fruit ripens.
The winds (and
)
appear to ensure a lower yield but produce fruit with more intense
flavours and varietal characteristics.
All our wines are made to be
enjoyed……with or without food….we don’t care how you have them.
We drink plenty of the stuff ourselves
and therefore we are our own number one critic.
We hope you enjoy the experience !
The Poems
Some may say it is unfortunate we do
not put more detail about each wine on the label.
We ask you taste it and judge for
yourselves, rather than us putting ideas into your heads.
Ack is the budding poet and he uniquely
provides a new poem on the back of each and every new variety and
vintage.
After thousands of hours sitting on a
tractor his creative juices start to flow!
